Improve your organic click-through rate on Google

The organic click-through rate or CTR is the percentage of Internet users who click to your website from search results. The higher your CTR, the higher the percentage of traffic generated by organic search.

Ranking high on Google isn't enough. What's more, you need users to click on your results. The click-through rate shows user engagement, and this is what matters most to Google. Indeed, it seeks to rank the websites that searchers click on in order to offer them the best experience.

What is a good click-through rate for organic search?

If the percentage of visitors clicking from a search result to your website is high, then you have a good click-through rate. The first 3 results get around 60% of all clicks.

Results on the second search page, on the other hand, get virtually no clicks.

How can you improve your organic click-through rate?

Thanks to these 3 practices :

  • Make your page titles catchy
  • Keep URLs short and to the point
  • Use Google Search Engine Console to improve your CTR

Make your titles catchy

Doesn't a banal title make you want to click? Well, other people do! How do you make your titles catchy?

Use [square brackets] or other special characters

With square brackets, your SEO title stands out among all your search results. It attracts more attention.

Using dates

For example: "3 tips to improve your CTR in 2021" The surfer knows right away that the article is recent and that the advice won't date from before the arrival of the Internet!

Use a keyword

Just one keyword. Choose the one that best defines your company, products or values.

Keep URLs short and to the point

Your page URL is also displayed in search results. To optimize your website, it's best to use short URLs that contain your target keyword. Remember to include your target word and remove all irrelevant information (dates, author's name, determinants, etc.).

Use Google Search Console

If you want to know which pages on your site have a low CTR, the GSC is the ideal tool!

Follow these 4 steps to download an analysis of your traffic to identify the lowest CTRs site-wide:

  • Open Google Search Console,
  • Access the "Performance > Search results" report,
  • Select the "Total number of impressions" and "Average CTR" boxes on the graph,
  • Filter your results by impression to see which pages or queries generate the highest number of impressions with the lowest number of clicks

Improving your CTR won't happen overnight. But it's an easy optimization effort that can boost your rankings and traffic volume. Moovizz can also help you create an effective content strategy.
